Walid Al Shami

1972

Painting, 60 x 74 cm.
Materials: mixed media on board

Collection: Courtesy Barjeel Art Foundation, Maraya Art Centre, Al Qasba, Sharjah.

The textured painting Maryam is exemplary for Al Shami’s magical realism. Striking is to see how the expressive and poetical works of Al Shami are in such blatant contrast to the situation of today’s conflict where Homs has been the site of so much war-torn devastation. At present, the artist has also turned to photography as medium for his creative expression.
