Yang Fudong

2000

Installation, 00:10:00.
Materials: projector, monitors

Collection: Collection M HKA, Antwerp / Collection Flemish Community (Inv. no. BK007719).

Tonight Moon reveals Fudong’s sensitive and sensory approach to the camera. The video installation shows a daydream in an Eastern botanical garden. Fudong plays with the contrast between the lush flora and the cast of men in suits. The different narrative layers reflect the artist’s exploration of multiple meanings and ambiguity on different levels of interpretation. Nature is a recurrent theme in Fudong’s work; the theme of the garden is also an important motive in Chinese philosophy. Fudong’s blissful garden is lush, sensual and erotic.
