Item: Mao-flag
1971
Photography, 80 x 70 cm.
Materials: photo emulsion, canvas
Collection: Collection M HKA, Antwerp (Inv. no. BK3957).
A purely graphic design dominates Mao flag. This poem depicts the US flag, whose stars are made of the letters ‘m’, ‘a’, and ‘o’. The result is a simple commentary on the opportunism of the US Republicans and Chinese Maoists with regard to the historical thaw between the two superpowers.
