Literary synopsis

Our hero-cum-assassin Joe Beyls and his pipe-smoking wife Bernadette Pichegru drive south and cross to a Caribbean island, where dictator Conan Steppe is in charge. Bernadette wants Joe to avenge her by killing Miltiades Zidane, her former lover and minister's son. But when they arrive, Zidane has already been murdered. While Bernadette shows Joe around the island and remarkable encounters take place, such as the one with the beautiful Flopette Wondershake, the unexpected twists and turns pile up at full speed. One death after another, and sometimes the question is who killed who. What can be suspected is that the unsuccessful gunfighter Joe and his conjugal pipe smoker are the only ones to hope for a happy ending.
