The image moves Over time, the image – and with it our thinking – was gradually stripped of its fixed nature and made mobile. The M HKA sees this development as the foundation of our present visual culture and the museum is able to document it by means of a media archaeology collection assembled by Robert Vrielynck. The objects it contains enable us to reflect on the basic requirements for perception. The ‘Zootrope’, invented by William Horner, gives the illusion of movement using still images. When it revolves it shows a smooth animated image, an illusion made possible by the ‘phi effect’.
