Item: Inserções em circuitos ideológicos. Projeto Coca-Cola

Cildo Meireles

1970

Object, Diameter: 6cm, Height: 25cm (each bottle).
Materials: coca cola bottles

Collection: Collection MACBA, Barcelona (Inv. no. 1882).

It is against the backdrop of the military dictatorship in Brazil that Meireles’ Inserções em circuitos ideológicos (insertions into ideological circuits) must be viewed: images and/or messages printed on such widely circulating objects.

For the same series Insertions into Ideological circuits, Meireles used bank notes and stamped on them the question “Who killed Herzog?”, referring to a journalist who had been tortured and murdered by the police in Brazil.

The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation. Central here is the museum's collection with its ongoing acquisitions, as well as related areas of management and research.
