Ping Pong – Philippe Van Snick
16 September 2017 - 07 January 2018

M HKA, Antwerp

Using the 1972 work Ping Pong and its subsequent donation by the artist to the M HKA as starting point for this exhibition, Belgian artist Philippe Van Snick brings together works from different periods. The title of the exhibition refers, on the one hand, to this work and, on the other, to the dynamics that are inherent to his oeuvre.

Van Snick's works are characterised by forms that evince a close affinity with Minimalism. His works are closely linked to the notion of space and the physical experience of the viewer in a concrete space. He uses a decimal system, as well as a simple and delimited visual vocabulary that consists of conceptual photography, mathematics, fragile sculptures and his own 10-color palette. With these means, Philippe Van Snick creates abstract worlds governed by bipolar fundamental forces, such as night and day, order and chaos.

About M HKA / Mission Statement

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public. The M HKA aspires to play a leading role in Flanders and to extend its international profile by building upon Antwerp's avant-garde tradition. The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation. Central here is the museum's collection with its ongoing acquisitions, as well as related areas of management and research.

About M HKA Ensembles

The M HKA Ensembles represent our first steps towards initiating the public to today's art-related digital landscape. With the help of these new media, our aim is to offer our artworks a better and fuller array of support for their presentation and public understanding.
