Zhanna Kadyrova is a multidisciplinary artist working with sculpture, photo, video, and performance. Her work deals with the multilayered history of Ukraine, post-communist modernity, the idea of community and the concept of public space. In 2004, she co-founded the group “Revolutionary Experimental Space” (R.E.P.) to encourage a reconsideration of public space in Ukraine and the development of a critical consciousness towards it. In her work, she often uses urban building materials such as concrete, brick, glass and tiles, critically reflecting on socialist ideas and soviet aesthetic canons. Zhanna Kadyrova holds numerous awards, including PinchukArtCentre Special Prize (2011) and the Main Award of the PinchukArtCentre Prize (2013).  She participated in the 58th, 56th and 55th Venice Biennale.

About M HKA / Mission Statement

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public. The M HKA aspires to play a leading role in Flanders and to extend its international profile by building upon Antwerp's avant-garde tradition. The M HKA bridges the relationship between artistic questions and wider societal issues, between the international and the regional, artists and public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation. Central here is the museum's collection with its ongoing acquisitions, as well as related areas of management and research.
