Unni Gjertsen

Unni Gjertsen is a visual artist based in Oslo. She works with text and video in installations; film, and various other media. She often use a literary approach in her practice and at the moment she is developing her first stage play. The perception of geography and history is a recurrent theme, and her work presenting alternative, yet possible versions of history has been showed in various international exhibitions.

Most recently Gjertsen showed her film Lessons in an exhibition at Verkstad Konsthall in Norrköping, Sweden 2015. The same year she participated in a group exhibition at The Museum for Contemporary Art in Roskilde with a work about the legacy of the Swedish film director Mai Zetterling. Gjertsen’s solo exhibitions include 0047, Oslo, Shanthi Road I, Bangalore (2011), Baltic Sea Cultural Centre in Gdansk (2007) and Konsthall C, Stockholm (2005). Her work ha been shown in group exhibitions at Malmö Konstmuseum (2014), Norrköpings Konstmuseum, Sørlandets Kunstmuseum, Kristiansand, Kunstnerforbundet, Oslo (2013), Nordische Botschaften, Berlin (2010), Hennie Onstad Art senter (2008) and MuHKA, Antwerp (2007). Commissions for public art projects include The Technology building at the University of Tromsø 2014. Gjertsen has been an artist in residence at Mitte Berlin (2013), Platform China, Beijing and CoLab Art and Architecture in Bangalore (2009) and a grant holder at Iaspis in Stockholm (2006-2007). Gjertsen graduated from the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art in 1997 and has studied at the Universities in Oslo and in Tromsø.
