Francesc Torres

Born in Barcelona (ES).

Francesc Torres worked in Paris, Chicago and New York to return later to Catalunya. His work attempts to explain the position of the artist in front of its creation and before the society. He has done exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum Reina Sofia Art Center in Madrid, the Valencian Modern Art Institute, the Nationalgalerie of Berlin, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona (MACBA), among others. More recently he has represented Catalonia and Baleares Islands in the Venice Biennale 2013 with 25%, curated by Jordi Balló. He has done permanent works in the public space, is curator of various exhibitions and collaborates with several publications and journals. He has also been president of the Catalonia Visual Artists Association. He was awarded with the National Fine Arts Prize by Catalonia’s Government and subsequently received the Visual Arts National Prize for his retrospective exhibition Da Capo at the Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona(MACBA). His work is today in a wide number of public collections and institutions worldwide.
