Clare Strand
° 1973
Lives in Brighton (United Kingdom).
Clare Strand (b. 1973) considers photography a medium that remains in continuous movement and transition; images never stand still. With her photographic work, she also constantly challenges and seeks to expand the medium's boundaries. In her photographic series, Strand draws inspiration from a wide array of sources, including forensic images, instructional guides, scrapbooks, ghost (or spirit ) photography and sundry printed material. While the medium of photography is an explicit and dominant theme, she also admits encouraging diverse absurdist elements, and so playfully subverts habitual patterns of actions and expectations. Or, as she states it herself: “I invite interruptions in my practice.”
