Maria Thereza Alves

Born in Brazil, lives in Berlin (Germany).

Maria Thereza Alves was born in Brazil and moved to New York at a young age. She has worked for the International Indian Treaty Council in New York City (where she met her partner Jimmie Durham). She was a founder of the Brazilian Information Center, working in defense of human rights of indigenous peoples, and co-founded the Partido Verde (Green Party) in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1981.

She has exhibited her artworks worldwide and often collaborates with Jimmie Durham.

The M HKA is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public.
