Literary synopsis

Observations on life, reissued from the author's regular newspaper columns, in semi-fictionalized accounts. Apupata is a small prose in which people, foods, colors, lights, entertainment, memories and signs are packed in compact portions. Väisänen writes about a small village in south-west of France, in the perspective of miniature prose, impressionistic essays and genre painting (or petit genre), where the small things and the detailed findings will grow into a complete way of life expression. Still, Finnish culture and memories of barracks from Oulu area come along.

Relation of the novel to the artist’s practice

Väisänen deals with words like brush strokes, in a very sentimental way in which rhythm is very important.
