Het ICC zou op verschillende wijzen een belangrijke formerende rol hebben voor het collectiepotentieel. Flor Bex ambieerde een museale functie in Antwerpen en deed een poging daartoe rond Office Baroque, het in 1977 gerealiseerde project van de kort daarna overleden Amerikaanse kunstenaar Gordon Matta-Clark. Dit opzet mislukte maar er werd via schenkingen van kunstenaars een collectie samengebracht die de basis vormde voor de M HKA-collectie bij de oprichting daarvan. De basis voor de collectie van het M HKA komt zo uit de ICC-periode, via de Stichting Gordon Matta-Clark. Deze zonder vooraf bepaalde inhoudelijke strategie samengestelde verzameling, omvat een 170 tal werken van uiteenlopende kwaliteit, en geeft een beeld weer van de internationale en nationale avant-garde uit de jaren negentienzeventig, met aanzetten naar en uitlopers in de jaren tachtig. Deze deelverzameling bestaat aldus uit een collectie kunstwerken typisch voor de jaren zeventig, met maar enkele grote namen, analytisch geïnspireerde interventies, fundamenteel en analytisch onderzoek van picturale kwaliteiten, …. De Stichting bezat veel werk van Belgische kunstenaars, : een installatie van Jacques Lizène, een vilten berglandschap van Hugo Heyrman, mailart van Johan van Geluwe, werk van Wout Vercammen, het ‘Bois de Moniteur Belge’ van Denmark, ontwerptekeningen van Luc Deleu, de installatie Vliegende Messen van Leo Copers. Bij de buitenlandse kunstenaars kunnen worden vermeld: Gordon Matta-Clark met een cibachrome, een reeks van de kunstenaarsboeken van Ed Ruscha, een vroege neonsculptuur van Maurizio Nannucci, en ‘The shadow of an extra-terrestial Man’ van James Lee Byars, ook wel ‘Antwerp Giant’ genoemd.
