Ricardo Brey (Havana, 1955) is een in Cuba geboren visueel kunstenaar. Hij studeerde af aan de Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes ‘San Alejandro’ en de Cubaanse Nationale School voor de Kunsten. Zijn artistieke roots situeren zich in de jaren 70 en 80 toen hij actief lid was van de groep Volumen I. De groep vertegenwoordigt nu de opkomst van een nieuwe generatie avant-garde kunstenaars in Cuba na de revolutie van 1959.
Na uitvoerig gereisd te hebben ontvangt Brey een uitnodiging om deel te nemen aan Documenta IX in Kassel. Brey verhuist hiervoor in 1990 naar Gent, waar hij nog steeds woont. In 1997 ontvangt hij een beurs van het Guggenheim voor installatiekunst en sculptuur en de Vlaamse Beeldende Kunstsprijs van Vlaams minister van Cultuur Luc Martens.
