Elisabeth Charlotte 'Pipilotti' Rist contributes to the global art boom in the 1990s. Her joyful video installations in Technicolor, with an aesthetic inspired by television and advertising, perfectly sum up the Zeitgeist.
Her work often questions explosive issues such as gender and the individual's self-determination, yet in a more playful and 'naive' way than is generally considered appropriate. Rist's videos are 'user friendly': they only last a few minutes and they stimulate the viewer with frequent changes in colour, tone and rhythm, as well as references to popular culture.
