Gavin Wade is an artist-curator, Director of Eastside Projects, Birmingham and Publisher of Strategic Questions. Wade lived and worked in London from 1991-2004. His major curated exhibition ‘In the Midst of Things’, set in Bournville Village in 1999, was heralded as ‘perhaps the most intriguing example of a site-specific project I’ve seen in Britain’ by Alex Farquharson in Frieze magazine. Wade’s diverse sites for commissioning art projects cover a range of contexts including a Naval Frigate, Portsmouth Cathedral, Greenham Common, London Underground, and Dudley Zoo. He has curated solo exhibitions with Cao Fei, Gunilla Klingberg, Mike Nelson, Yelena Popova, Yangjiang Group, William Pope.L, Dan Graham, Carey Young, Jennifer Tee, hobbypopMUSEUM, Liam Gillick, Joanne Tatham & Tom O’Sullivan, Simon & Tom Bloor, Nathan Coley and Bas Jan Ader. Curated projects include: ‘Painting Show’ (2011-12), ‘Narrative Show’ (2011), & ‘This Is The Gallery And The Gallery Is Many Things’, (2008), Eastside Projects; ‘Strategic Questions Venice’, 52nd Venice Biennale (2007); ‘Thin Cities’, Piccadilly Line Centenary, Platform for Art, London Underground (2006-8); ‘Public Structures’, Guangzhou Triennial, China (2005); ‘ArtSheffield05: Spectator T’, cross city Festival (2005). Wade is a prolific book maker, tweeter (as @eprjcts) and publisher.
